Remarkable Success for 9th Ice Warrior Challenge


The 9th Ice Warrior Challenge was successfully organized, Friday morning 21st Sept. 2018 at the Ski Dubai in the Emirates Mall, with participation of H.E. Abdulla Bin Touq, the Secretary General of the UAE Cabinet, and H.E. Abdulla Al-Karam, the Board Chairman & Director General of the Knowledge & Human Development Authority in Dubai.


The Challenge was arranged by Ski Dubai in collaboration with Dubai Sports Council.  


The event was held in the presence of Mr. Khalfan Belhoul, the CEO of the Future Museum, and huge numbers of male & female athletes of various ages and multi-nationalities in addition to official persons of governmental & private teams; top of which are two teams from the Secretariat General of the Cabinet and the Knowledge & Human Development Authority in Dubai.


The Ice Warrior Challenge is the first eminent event in a series of the various challenge competitions taking place every year in Dubai; the total number of which are 9 various challenges. 


Halvard Burchiem of Norway maintained the title of the male category of this competition for the 4th successive year as he finished the challenge within 17:11 minutes, followed by Johan Shao of Switzerland in the 2nd place with 18:44 minutes, while Osman Safi of Morocco got the 3rd place within 19:31 minutes.


The Emirati challenger Rashid Al-Muhairi presented excellent performance and was about to attain one of the first three places were it not for a minor stumble, which forced him to be one minute late and to get 9th place.


In women category, Erika Petotsky of Canada secured the 1st place within 22:58 minutes, while the title's holder Ivan Kollarik of Serbia retreated to 2nd place within 23:37 minutes and Jill Meyer of Britain came 3rd within 25:21 minutes.


The 9th Ice Warrior Challenge was contested by 344 competitors; comprised 239 males & 71 females. The event was joined by several governmental entities; top of which is the Knowledge & Human Development Authority.


The completion average of the race is 49:34 minutes (47:37 minutes for males and 55:50 for females).


In conclusion of the Challenge, Mr. Ghazi Al-Madani, Acting Director of Sports Events Dept. in DSC, and Mr. Chris David, the Snow Sport Operations Manager at Ski Dubai, awarded winners with valuable prizes, presented by New Balance; the official sponsor of the Challenge. The 1st placed male & female have got 125 thousand points from Emirates Fly besides other distinctive prizes, presented by the main sponsors of the competition.  


It is worth-mentioning that the annual sports events agenda, issued by DSC, comprises several events such as barrier challenges in ice, mud, mountain & desert. DSC organizes top various events such as the Ultra-marathon & Ultimate Strongman besides other events, which make the Emirate of Dubai as a pioneering city in the organizing top world events.


DSC is keen to support various events taking place in the Emirate of Dubai, based on its strategy to increase the number of those who exercise various individual & team games.
